And here’s reason number #972 I am unlikely to date again.
Police are looking for man who placed his “girlfriend” (I use quotes because no one who treats a human like this gets to have an actual girlfriend in my book), in a small box regularly since January.
According to ABC 17, the woman met the man, James Horn, Jr., through an online dating service. The two began dating last fall, and moved in in September. Things were OK? until January when his behavior made her fear for her safety. Neighbors didn’t report her missing because the two had been seen together. The woman says she went along with what he wanted for fear of what he’d do.
Investigators found the box when searching Horn’s house. It measured 100” long, 48” wide, and 52” tall. Inside, they found the box lined with several layers of insulation, sleeping bags, and an air hole. There was also a bucket of excrement inside the box, and the knife the victim mentioned was found in a utility room nearby.
Here’s the kicker — he’s a registered sex offender in Missouri, and has previously been convicted with the rape and kidnapping of an ex-girlfriend in Shelby County, Tenn., and after he completed that sentence, went on to kidnap and rape his estranged wife while their 8-year-old daughter was in the house. He got 12 years for that.
My questions: 1) Where the hell is this man and can the police catch him already? I live much too close to this for comfort.
2) When are we going to start instituting longer sentencing terms for people who kidnap, assault and rape? His sentence, according to the story at Fox 4 News, would have only been 2-3 years before he was released.
